This page explains what happens to your data when you sign up for The Study Cheat Sheet from Hugh Knows. Short version: I use your email address to send you the cheat sheet, plus about one email a week with study tips. You can unsubscribe or ask me to delete your data at any time.
Who is responsible
Hugh Knows ([YOUR NAME / BUSINESS NAME]), based in the Netherlands, is the controller of your personal data. Contact: [CONTACT_EMAIL]
What data I collect
- Your email address, which you type into the form.
- Which link you came from, if the link had a tag in it (for example "youtube" and the ID of the video whose description you clicked). This is saved with your email so I can see which videos help students most.
- Anonymous visit counts: when you open this page, I count one visit together with where you came from and your device type (mobile, tablet or desktop). No cookies are used and no IP address or other identifier is stored, so these counts can't be linked to you.
- Basic technical data that my email provider records automatically when you sign up and open emails (such as sign-up date and time, IP address and whether an email was opened).
I don't ask for your name, and I don't use any cookies, tracking pixels or advertising tools on this page.
The video on this page: nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play. When you do, the video plays through YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and YouTube (Google) receives your IP address and may store data on your device, as described in Google's privacy policy.
Why I use it (and the legal basis)
- To send you the cheat sheet you asked for. Everyone who signs up gets the cheat sheet email. The legal basis is that you asked me for it (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- To send you study tips, about once a week. The sign-up form tells you this before you sign up ("Includes my weekly study tips"). The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you give by signing up. You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email; you'll then get no more emails from me.
- To understand which videos and links work, using the link tag and the anonymous visit counts. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in improving my videos and this page (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object to this at any time by emailing me.
You confirm first. After you sign up, the first email asks you to confirm your email address (this is called double opt-in). Only after you confirm do you get the cheat sheet and the tips, so nobody can sign you up without your permission.
Who stores it
Email addresses are stored with MailerLite (MailerLite UAB, Lithuania, EU), which sends the emails on my behalf as a data processor. MailerLite stores data within the EU where possible; any transfers outside the EU are covered by appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses. See MailerLite's privacy policy.
This website and the anonymous visit counts are hosted by Netlify, which may process server logs (like IP addresses) to deliver the page. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts.
I never sell or share your email address with anyone else.
How long I keep it
Until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. After you unsubscribe, your address is removed from my active list. I may keep it on a suppression list only to make sure you're never emailed again, unless you ask me to delete it completely.
How to unsubscribe or delete your data
- Unsubscribe: click the unsubscribe link in any email. It works instantly.
- Delete everything: email me at [CONTACT_EMAIL] with the subject "Delete my data". I'll remove your email address and everything linked to it from MailerLite within 30 days (usually much sooner) and confirm when it's done.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent. Just email me. If you think I'm handling your data incorrectly, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Age
If you're under 16, please ask a parent or guardian before signing up.
